The Union Springs Central School District's elementary school will soon be run by a former student.聽聽
Meghan Mennerich is the new principal of A.J. Smith Elementary School, the district said in a on its website. She starts July 1.聽
Mennerich is already familiar with the area, having been a Union Springs resident since she was in fourth grade, the district said. She now has three children who attend the district.聽
"It鈥檚 truly an honor to return and lead the building that helped shape who I am today," she said. "As a parent of children in elementary, middle, and high school, I鈥檓 actively involved at all levels of the district. This perspective allows me to see the full scope of our students鈥 experiences and deepens my commitment to ensuring a strong, supportive path from kindergarten through graduation.鈥
The district board of education approved a four-year probationary appointment for Mennerich at its May 27 meeting. According to a , she will be paid聽$101,000 for the 2025-26 school year.
Previously the聽聽of Casey Park Elementary School in the Auburn Enlarged City School District, Mennerich is taking over A.J. Smith from retiring principal Sheila LaDouce.
Mennerich said she is excited to start in her new role.
