A pair of Cayuga Community College students received prestigious awards for their academic and all-around involvement on Tuesday.聽
In a news release, the college announced that sophomores Jorge Jimenez, of the Bronx, and Julia Wilson, of Auburn, were among 195 SUNY students to receive the Chancellor鈥檚 Award for Student Excellence for 2024-25 academic year.聽The award is the highest accolade for SUNY students.聽
Recipients of the award combine academic achievement, campus involvement, athletic participation, career accomplishment, leadership and community service.
CCC President Brian Durant said that Jimenez and Wilson have contributed to the college鈥檚 community in a multitude of ways.聽
鈥淭hey鈥檙e dedicated in the classroom, determined to prepare themselves for dynamic futures, and are committed to enhancing the college experience for their classmates,鈥 Durant said.
Jimenez and Wilson are both graduating this May: Jimenez with an associate degree in liberal arts and sciences, and Wilson with an Associate of Science in business administration. Both plan to pursue bachelor's degrees afterward.聽
Jimenez, who worked in the student services center and played on the men's basketball team, said he was honored to be recognized alongside the other SUNY students.聽

鈥淚 came to Cayuga knowing that I would do well if I worked hard and believed in myself,鈥 he said.
鈥淚 was fortunate to have a great support system with my classmates and the Educational Opportunity Program at Cayuga.鈥
Wilson was the student government secretary, a tutor, and earned her degree while working part-time and being a mother of one daughter.聽
She said it was her goal to win the Chancellor鈥檚 Award, but Wilson was still surprised when she received it.聽
鈥淥ne of my goals at Cayuga was to connect with other students and to work together to make our college experiences memorable,鈥 she said.
