MORAVIA 鈥 An aspiring food truck operator has parked a kitchen in a historic property in the heart of the village of Moravia.
In May, Cassandra Janke-Golden opened Mama's Kitchen at 110 Main St. The local native serves breakfast and lunch every day, and dinner Thursdays and Fridays.聽
The eatery's casual vibe and concise but ever-changing menu reflect Janke-Golden's goal of one day opening a food truck and taking it on the road to festivals and other events.
"Food is my love language," she told 水果派AV there July 1.

Similarly, her food is for takeout only. But Mama's Kitchen features a fenced-in area with several umbrella-covered picnic tables for those who don't want to wait to dig in.聽
Starting at 6 a.m., breakfast options include wraps (egg, cheese and a meat of choice) and bites (egg, cheese and hash browns), as well as coffee and muffins.

For lunch, there are soups, salads, sandwiches and loaded hot dogs like the Big Daddy, which is topped with onion, bacon and cheese.
The menu's changes include not only specials like veggie omelets and a sandwich of the week, but themes: burgers on Mondays, tacos on Tuesdays, hot sandwiches on Wednesdays, hot entrees on Thursdays and fish fries (regular or beer-battered haddock) on Fridays. Each comes with sides like fries and coleslaw.聽
The eatery is closed on weekends, which are family time, the mother of four said.
It was also through family that the opportunity to open Mama's Kitchen came along 鈥 one Janke-Golden couldn't pass up.聽

All in the family
Janke-Golden opened her eatery where her husband, Josh Golden, opened Wheel in the Sky Cyclery in 2023. He moved his bike and repair shop one unit over within the brick building to make way.聽
The Main Street space dates back to at least the 1930s, Janke-Golden said, when photos show grocery stores there. It was also a midcentury men's clothing shop at one point, Golden said.聽
More recently, the space was The Family Deli. The food business was taken over by Janke-Golden鈥檚 mother, Charlene "Charlie" Janke, and her husband, Jim Yesalusky, in 2011. They closed it in 2022 as they opened Charlie's Lakeside in the Owasco Lake restaurant previously known as Drifter's, the Cascade Grill and more.聽
With her parents now retired, Janke-Golden is happy to work in an industry she's been part of for years.
She also hopes her children become part of the family business, including teenager Molly, who was helping her mother July 1. It's not just experience, Janke-Golden said, but community involvement.
The family hopes to play a more active role in Moravia as well.
Janke-Golden would like to help with fundraisers, and partner with other local businesses to support causes and simply bring people out of their homes for a good time.聽
鈥淚 like to keep people happy,鈥 she said. 鈥淲hen they鈥檙e happy, it makes me happy."
