An intersection widening project at North Street and Standart Avenue in Auburn will begin in two weeks.
The original start date was Tuesday, Sept. 2. Digital signs posted on Standart Avenue notified motorists that the project would start that day. However, the city of Auburn provided an update on Friday that the project will begin on Monday, Sept. 8.
Casinella Excavating, an Onondaga County firm that was awarded a $509,264 contract, will complete the project over a six-week period. Standart Avenue between North and Vista streets will be closed for construction.
Casinella and the city of Auburn will have representatives on site to assist residents with accessing their driveways. They will also help delivery drivers, emergency services and trash removal vehicles that need to enter the work zone.

The project will widen the intersection at North Street and Standart Avenue. In May, the city acquired portions of two properties at the intersection to advance the widening project.
Casinella will replace the curbing, sidewalks and storm sewers at or near the intersection. The section of street will also be repaved and some existing grassy areas will be regraded to install a new sidewalk.
In a letter to residents, Casinella said its crew will be working from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday during the project, which is expected to be completed by the third week of October.
"Casinella Excavating is aware that road construction can be an intrusive process, and we will do our best to make this a smooth project for all involved," the contractor said. "We ask for your patience during this process and look forward to improving the function and beauty of the city of Auburn."Â
The city will use state Touring Route Program funding to pay for the project, which will complement a separate $750,000 project to repave North Street from Seymour Street to the northern city line. That project is also expected to begin in September.
