Two towns in northern Cayuga County will soon have new halls.
The towns of Brutus and Victory have outgrown their current offices, Supervisors James Hotaling and Michael Wiggins told 水果派AV.
Both are now planning new buildings to better meet the needs of not only the municipal governments, but their communities.听
In Brutus, Hotaling said, the town will move to a 14-acre property on Route 31, near Barber Welding in the village of Weedsport. A听parking lot, roadway and sewer lines are all in place.
The town originally planned to share the new building with Weedsport, the supervisor said, but the village opted out.
The new hall will feature separate areas for some departments and an improved courtroom, as well as a new community center and pavilion on the same campus. There will also be a large, central space that can be sectioned off, Hotaling said. The building will be compliant with the听Americans with Disabilities Act and more energy-efficient than the town's current one.

"The building is going to be utilized for everyone in the community, not just for the government," he said.
There also wouldn't be a cellar in the new building, which Hotaling noted because the current one's cellar has been a problem due to age and water retention.听
Brutus has been considering a new building for several years, the supervisor said. The town moved forward when the Fastrac gas station near the current hall asked about purchasing it for an expansion.
Hotaling said any money made from selling that property would support the new building.
Before construction can begin on the estimated $4 million project, however, the town has to restart the bidding process. It hasn't received the required three bids, Hotaling said.
"You bid today and you don't know what happens material-wise," he said.听鈥淲e鈥檙e all taxpayers and are cognizant of the costs.鈥

The town board has also rejected proposals due to high costs.
"We're trying to be very careful and frugal in building this thing," Hotaling said. "We're not gonna do it until we get the price right."听
But he's optimistic the town will find a contractor soon, and hopes to begin construction in September or October.听
'It's going to take awhile'
In Victory, the town is looking to build a new hall near the corner of Upton Road and Route 370, just south of the highway department garage.
The new building would offer more space and additional rooms as the current, 50-year-old one on Town Barn Road shows its age, Wiggins said. The current one can also be cumbersome, he continued, like when court is in session and other town department meetings or work sessions have to be rescheduled or relocated.听
"They'd be on top of each other," he said.
Victory would still own the Town Barn Road building, Wiggins said, and it would be used as a highway storage facility.
The town started accepting bids for the project on June 6.听According to minutes from its March meeting, the maximum project cost is $650,000. Financing will come from $260,000 of unassigned fund balances from Victory's general fund and $390,000 from the town鈥檚 capital improvement and equipment reserve fund.
"It's not a done deal," Wiggins said. "It's going to take a while."
