Hundreds of high school students in the Cayuga County area will graduate this month, with commencement ceremonies getting underway beginning Friday, June 20.
As they get ready for the next chapter in their lives, 水果派AV is featuring the valedictorians and salutatorians at each of the 10 high schools we cover:
Auburn Enlarged City School District
Valedictorian: Mitchell Homick

Mitchell Homick
Mitchell will attend Yale University to major in English, with plans to go on to law school, the district told 水果派AV.听
In a district , he credited his academic development to some of the classes he took at Auburn.听
鈥淚 like the teachers in the AP classes, and I would say social studies and English. Those departments really helped me get to where I am today,鈥 he said.

Mitchell added that he is thrilled about being valedictorian.
鈥淚 was just excited,鈥 he said. 鈥淚 was already putting in so much of the work, so I was just excited that it paid off.鈥

Matthew Crounse
Matthew will attend the University at Buffalo and wants to study chemical engineering or engineering, the district told 水果派AV.
Two particular classes prompted Matthew to want to go into chemical engineering, he said in the district's news release.
鈥淚n my sophomore year, I took an engineering class called POE (Principles of Engineering) and that was when Mr. Gilmore did a lot of designing and stuff that I thought was fun, and then my chemistry teacher, Ms. Lehman, made the class really enjoyable," Matthew said. "After that everything was just fun to learn about.鈥
He said he was happy about being named salutatorian.
鈥淗onestly, I thought I lost the title because I thought I had it my freshman and sophomore year,鈥 Matthew said, 鈥渂ut my junior year wasn't that good. So hearing (the news) that day, it made me feel like the hard work paid off.鈥
Cato-Meridian Central School District

Nathan Dennis
Nathan plans to attend SUNY Cortland in the fall to major in sports management and pre-law, the district said in a听. He has achieved a weighted grade point average of 102.33 and will graduate with over 60 college credit hours. He completed accelerated, online and advanced placement courses and achieved mastery level on all of his Regents examinations. Nathan is also set to graduate with an advanced Regents diploma with honors, as well as with the Seal of Civic Readiness and the Seal of Biliteracy.
His extracurricular activities include being in the Spanish Club (grades 9-12), Student Council (grades 9-12), Drama Club stage crew (grades 10-12) and National Honor Society (grades 11 and 12). His leadership roles include bring vice president of Spanish Club and class president (grade 12). He also led the National Honor Society as president during his senior year.
Nathan was involved in cross-country, indoor track and other activities as well.

Elaina Williams
Elaina plans to attend D鈥橸ouville University to major in physical therapy, with aspirations to be a physical therapist, the district said. She achieved a weighted grade point average of 100.62 and will graduate with over 40 college credit hours, in addition to taking advanced and college-level coursework. She will graduate with a Regents with advanced distinction diploma, mastery in science and mastery in math, plus the Seal of Biliteracy in French and the Seal of Civic Readiness.
Elaina has been in the the French Club (grades 10-12) and National Honor Society (grades 11 and 12), serving as the latter's secretary this year. She also participated in musicals as part of the Drama Club, and was in the band throughout high school.
Athletically, she competed in varsity cross-country, indoor track and outdoor track.
Jordan-Elbridge Central School District

Nicolas Loperfido
Nicolas is still looking at his options but is considering a future in the medical or engineering fields, he said in a district . He is a member of the National Honor Society and Student Council, and participated in football, basketball and baseball.
"Reflecting on his journey, Nick acknowledges the long nights spent studying and writing essays, especially for Mrs. Hourigan鈥檚 class, and while he believes he could have put more effort into the little things, he is proud of the work that got him here," the district said.

Brooke Chiaramonte
Brooke will attend Genesee Community College to study communications while playing for the school鈥檚 volleyball team. She served as class president and Student Council president and participated in volleyball, basketball, softball and the musical program, the district said.
"More than anything, she will miss the unwavering support of the JEHS community. Whether it was on the court, on stage, or even while creating school videos, she always felt surrounded by encouragement," the district said. "One of her favorite aspects of high school was being recognized as the 'TikTok girl' 鈥 a nod to her fun and creative presence in school media."
Moravia Central School District

Olivia Genson
Olivia听will attend the University of Rochester, as she plans to study biology or biomedical engineering in college and then pursue a career in the military or as a government employee, the Center for Instruction, Technology and Innovation BOCES told 水果派AV. She also earned a scholarship through the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps Marine Corps Program Option.
She will graduate high school with a weighted grade point average of 98.86 and earned an advanced Regents diploma with honors and a science distinction. Olivia has participated in cross-country, basketball and track and field. She was also named a New York State Public High School Athletic Association Scholar-Athlete numerous times and helped the basketball team win its first Class C state championship in 2024.
Olivia was chosen to attend both the Naval Academy Summer Seminar and the American Legion Auxiliary Empire Girls State. Additionally, she has been a member of the Student Advisory Council, the Student Athletic Advisory Council, Student Government and the National Honor Society (as president).

Nicholas Plue
Nicholas will attend the University at Buffalo to major in mechanical engineering, BOCES said.
He will graduate high school with a weighted grade point average of 97.58 and earned an advanced Regents diploma with honors and math and science distinctions. He is a member of the National Honor Society and serves as the senior class co-treasurer, and has participated in football, track, wrestling, soccer and baseball.
Nicholas said his fondest memory with the district was "qualifying for states his junior year of wrestling, which no one from the school has done before," BOCES said.
Port Byron Central School District听

Brennan Hare
Brennan will attend the University of Rochester to study history with the goal of becoming an archivist, BOCES told 水果派AV.
He was in area all-state for bass clarinet and is a member of band, choir, jazz band, jazz choir, Drama Club and the Masterminds Quiz Team, the district said in a听.
Brennan said his most meaningful moments at the district come from younger students expressing their appreciation to him.
"When younger kids tell me they鈥檙e going to miss me 鈥 if they come up and say they liked having me in school with them, that means a lot," he said.

Marlena Doerle
Marlena听will attend SUNY Brockport to study kinesiology to eventually become an occupational therapist, BOCES said.
She was involved in volleyball, field hockey, band, choir and the Environmental Club at the district, it said in the news release.
Marlena said some of her most treasured experiences at the district came from sports.
"I got to meet a ton of people of all ages and build connections with them," she said.

Benjamin Kermidas
Benjamin will attend the University at Buffalo in the fall to major in civil engineering, he said in a . He competed in soccer, basketball and baseball.
He thanked the district employees who helped him during his academic career.
"I extend my gratitude to Mr. and Mrs. Carnicelli and Ms. Bergen for always being there to motivate and guide me in the right direction," Benjamin said.
"I acknowledge Ms. Schneggenburger and Mr. Otis for their dedication not only for teaching students, but also being fantastic role models; the attention and thoughtfulness that they both provide for my classmates and myself, I鈥檓 very grateful for the time I have spent with them."

Abigail White
Abigail will attend the Cornell University College of Agriculture and Life Sciences for agricultural sciences, studying sustainable agriculture, the district said.
She said her studies and extracurriculars have allowed her to develop as a person.
"From the various advanced classes to the pool and softball field, I have learned the importance of perseverance and determination," she said.
"I have also learned the equal importance that kindness and positivity can play in reaching your goals."
Tyburn Academy of Mary Immaculate
Valedictorian:听Madeline Weichert

Madeline Weichert
Madeline will attend Christendom College and plans to study either theology or history, the academy told 水果派AV.

Devin Platt
Devin will attend Hamilton College, the district said in a听. She was in the musical "Xanadu," was a National Honor Society member, and served as the Union Springs Central School District Board of Education student representative.
Earning the valedictorian title means a lot to her, she said.
鈥淚 believe it shows that I have worked very hard these past four years, both in and out of the classroom," Devin said.
"However, I would not have achieved this title if it were not for the support and love provided by my family, friends and teachers.鈥

Carter Botindari
Carter will attend Le Moyne College in the fall to study forensic science, the district said. He is a member of the National Honor Society and played baseball and basketball throughout high school.
He said he is honored by being acknowledged as salutatorian.
鈥淚t is a mark of academic dedication, hard work and perseverance. Many people believe that everyone doesn鈥檛 face difficulties, although they do," Carter said.
"Throughout my time in high school, I have had to endure hardships and persist countless times. All in all, this title means a lot to me, and I will continue to try to be the best at everything I do.鈥
Weedsport Central School District

Abby Bizzozero
Abby will attend Buffalo State University next year to pursue a degree in English education, the district told 水果派AV.
Abby has been involved with activities such as Masterminds, National Honor Society, Junior Honor Society, Student Senate, Book Club, Art Club and the Bowling Club, and she also performed in school musicals. She is the treasurer for the graduating class as well.
Salutatorian: Gabriella Jeffers

Gabriella Jeffers
Gabriella plans to attend the Northeast College of Health and Medical Sciences in Seneca Falls to major in sonography, the district said. She has been in National Honor Society, has played basketball and field hockey, and has been in the New Visions program the last two years.
She has also volunteered at a food pantry and Champ Camp, and helped organize Christmas presents for children in need.
