A Cayuga County man who planned to participate in the demonstrations that led to the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol has been charged with driving while intoxicated twice within a week.聽
Moses J. Geri, 43, of Moravia, was first charged with DWI at about 2 p.m. May 22 after he was reported to be driving recklessly while leaving The Watering Hole in Summerhill, the Cayuga County Sheriff's Office said in a news release. According to witnesses, his driving caused rocks from the driveway to hit the building.
Geri was later located on Skinner Hill Road in Moravia, hunched over his steering wheel and initially unresponsive, the sheriff's office said. Once deputies woke him up he provided a breath sample and his blood alcohol content was .13%. He was then charged and issued appearance tickets returnable to Moravia Town Court at a later date.

Two days later, Geri was charged with DWI a second time after deputies responded to a report of a two-vehicle accident at Fillmore Glen State Park at about 11:30 a.m. May 24. They located him sleeping on the ground near a truck determined to be involved in the accident, the sheriff's office said in a news release Friday.

Geri was transported to Auburn Community Hospital for treatment. He was arrested May 27 and brought to centralized arraignment, and released to appear in Moravia Town Court on June 12.
Undersheriff Stuart Peenstra told 水果派AV that Geri's second arrest did not incur a felony charge, which happens when one is charged within 10 years of a previous conviction, because he has not been found guilty of the first charge.
Geri had also consumed alcohol when he was arrested early the morning of Jan. 1, 2021, for the felony of shooting a firearm within 1,000 feet of a school at a hotel in Arlington, Virginia.
According to court filings, Geri had come to the Washington area with a snowplow on his truck and a revolver, rifle, shotgun and more than 800 rounds of ammunition to confront Black Lives Matter protestors. He told police he fired his revolver twice into the air, after drinking a quarter of a bottle of moonshine, because fellow hotel guests had antagonized him.
Geri also said he was in the area to support President Trump and "his cause," prompting an Arlington County Circuit Court judge to say, "He clearly came to Arlington to participate in something that he believed warranted having with him an arsenal of weapons and ammunition ... armed to the teeth to accomplish whatever mission he had in mind."
Geri pleaded guilty to the felony charge and was sentenced to two years in prison, with one year and eight months suspended for 12 months of probation.
