Auburn's usual slate of Memorial Day weekend festivities will proceed as always this year, despite construction on nearly every downtown road.聽
Activities will kick off Sunday morning with the 21st annual Majorpalooza festival. Downtown road work will not impact the Catch Me if You Can 5K or Stefanak Sprint run for children,聽organizer Chris Major said. However, Major said the space where the after-race events will take place has been "trimmed down" from last year, but not as a result of the construction.聽
The festivities, which include children's activities, food trucks and craft vendors, will take place on Genesee Street between Exchange聽Street and Route 34. In the past, the entertainment stretched down Genesee聽Street from Route 34 to State Street and spilled onto Exchange聽Street as well.聽聽
"We're hoping for good weather, but the activities will go on rain or shine," Major said.聽

Construction continues Monday on the Loop Road along the Owasco River in downtown Auburn.
On Monday, the Memorial Day parade will proceed as planned, beginning聽on East Genesee Street and marching west toward Veterans Memorial Park for the wreath-laying ceremony and performance by the Auburn Civic Band.
Some portions of the sidewalk along the parade route will be closed, said Superintendent of Public Works Mike Talbot, though he hopes the contractors "can button up some corners and take down some barricades" this week. He cautioned people to "be alert and be aware when they're walking along the sidewalks since it is an unfinished project."聽
"I know聽some people have their most favorite spot that they've watched the parade for years, but they might have to move a few feet in either direction," Talbot said.聽
Following the parade, hundreds of yellow rubber ducks will race down the Owasco聽River as part of the聽30th annual Duck Derby.聽The finish line for the Owasco River race is located at the North Street bridge and people typically line the sidewalk along Loop Road to watch the end of the race. That sidewalk has been closed for some time due to construction聽and Talbot said he can not definitively say whether or not it will be reopened by derby day.
"It's going to be a聽last-second push to get whatever they can done," Talbot said of the sidewalk.聽
As far as parking goes, Talbot said the Lincoln Street garage is the best option. Parking will still be allowed on the streets as well.聽
"This Memorial Day is unlike any other year (because) of the construction," Talbot said. "We appreciate everyone's patience and understanding and hope that doesn't discourage anyone from coming down."
