A central New York village declared a state of emergency and evacuated residents due to flooding that occurred Tuesday night.
Jordan Mayor Casey Brim said Wednesday the village was notified that Skaneateles Creek crested in several areas. There was significant flooding reported by residents on Chappell Street, Elbridge Street, Mechanic Street, Railroad Street, Vale Street and Valley Drive.
Brim declared a state of emergency at 10 p.m. Meanwhile, the Jordan Fire Department worked with the Lakeside, Northwest and Solvay fire departments and the New York State Fire Swift Water Task Force to evacuate residents along Vale Street and Valley Drive.

Village streets are passable, Brim said, but there is debris along the shoulder of the roads and on the sidewalks. The mayor urged motorists to use caution when traveling through the village Wednesday.
Brim has lifted the state of emergency. Residents should report significant flooding damage to the village at (315) 687-7350. The village needs to document the damage before seeking federal assistance.
According to Brim, several other agencies — the town of Elbridge, Jordan Ambulance, Jordan Police Department, Jordan Department of Public Works, Marcellus Ambulance, NYSEG and Onondaga County Emergency Management — assisted with the response to the flooding event.
Heavy rainfall caused flooding in parts of central New York, including Cayuga and Onondaga counties. In Cayuga County, numerous roads were closed due to flooding. The roads reopened Wednesday after flooding subsided.
