The Wells College women's lacrosse team won its ninth straight game to open the season Saturday, beating La Roche on the road 17-11.
First-year duo Logan Lomonaco and Hannah Lamont scored seven goals apiece, and Lamont's 15 draw controls gave her 93 on the season. That shatters Mackenzie Maloney's single-season Wells record of 78, with at least six more games left to play.聽
Lomonaco is first in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference with goals and assists, with 34 and 16, respectively. The Express has the top four players in goals, top three in assists and top five in points in the conference as well.
Wells will next host Hilbert on Tuesday.
Baseball
Wells College 11, Pitt-Greensburg 4; Wells 4, Pitt-Greensburg 3: The Express swept the Bobcats during a home doubleheader Saturday. In the first game, Mike Nascimento began with four straight strikeouts and allowed three hits and two runs in five innings. Sophomore Zach Young went 3-for-4 with one RBI and three runs scored. In the second game, Zander Johnson allowed two runs in six innings and struck out eight.聽AJ Campi's walk-off in the bottom of the ninth secured the sweep for Wells. The team is now 14-8 this season.聽
Jordan-Elbridge 8, Wayne 6: Charlotte Hsiao scored four goals on Saturday in the Eagles' road victory. Makayla Penird finished with three goals and one assist.聽Kelsey Brunelle racked up one goal, one assist and two draw controls. Stella Opanhoske totaled two draw controls while聽Marcy Titus ended with one. Ryleigh Gill had a pair of saves.
West Genesee 11, Auburn 2: Danielle Swietoniowski and Olivia Leader had a goal apiece in the Maroons' home loss. Goalie Makayla Hutchinson had 10 saves. The Maroons are now 0-2 on the season and will next visit Oswego on Tuesday.
Men's volleyball
Mount Aloysius 3, Wells College 2: The Express fell in five sets in its final matchup of the season Saturday at home. Senior Billy McCrae led Wells with 16 kills, while captain Connor Garvey had seven kills and four digs. Three Express players had double-digit digs, led by Jacob Sehn with 17. Wells finishes the season with a record of 7-22.
