The junior scored in double digits in each of the Wolverines' three games last week as they came away with two wins. He scored a team-high 15 points and added three steals on Jan. 27 in a 66-46 road victory over LaFayette. In Weedsport’s second win on Thursday, a 70-45 rout against Hannibal, Kocur dropped in 14 points. To conclude his week, the guard had 14 points in a loss to Port Byron. Kocur is averaging 17 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game for the Wolverines, who have an 11-5 record on the season.

Cato-Meridian picked up a pair of wins with the assistance of some all-around play from its guard. McGetrick racked up 13 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals on Jan. 27 as the Blue Devils took down Altmar-Parish-Williamstown, 68-42. He then posted 15 points, a game-high eight assists and three steals on Friday in a 68-32 victory over Hannibal. The junior is putting up 12 points, 4.8 assists and 1.9 steals per game as Cato-Meridian sits at 12-5. The Blue Devils are back on the court Friday when they travel to OnTech Charter.

Girls basketball: Jennifer Daum, Union Springs
Leading the Wolves in scoring in the majority of their wins this season, Daum continued that trend as her team added two wins to its resume last week. To kick things off, the junior tallied a game-high 22 points and five rebounds as the Wolves pulled out a 46-37 win over Elmira Heights. She then helped Union Springs pick up its fourth straight win Friday by recording a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds. Now boasting a 12-3 record, the Wolves are ranked No. 19 in the state in Class C.Â

The girl Maroons won three consecutive matchups last week, and Capone paced them in scoring twice. She put up a match-high 559 on Jan. 27 as Auburn defeated East Syracuse-Minoa by a score of 7-0. Capone then recorded a season-high 620 against Oswego on Jan. 28 in a 7-0 victory. Rounding out the week of matchups on Jan. 29, she had a score of 545 against Oswego in another 7-0 win. Auburn finished the regular season at 8-5, with Capone leading the team in scoring with 5,992.

Lamson added four wins to his individual record last week as the Eagles competed in a dual meet and the Onondaga High School League tournament. His first victory came against Baldwinsville’s Coleman Bouthillier on Thursday by a 15-0 technical fall in the 124-pound weight class. At the league tournament, the sophomore earned a win by pin and major decision prior to his matchup for first place against teammate Liam Mantell. The freshman claimed the top spot in his weight class over Mantell by a 5-4 decision. Lamson now sits at 25-9 on the season, and has won his last seven matchups.

The Union Springs girls basketball team is given the New York State Public High School Athletic Association's Community Service Challenge award on Jan. 31 at Union Springs High School for holding a campaign to donate items to victims of Hurricanes Helene and Milton.
