Cayuga County will pay rent for several departments to occupy space at Cayuga Community College, but it will be a fraction of the rent for the building at 63 Genesee St. in Auburn.
According to the lease agreement, the county will pay $75,000 a year to rent the former employment and training center at the college's Auburn campus. The rent will be deducted from the capital chargebacks CCC pays to the county.
Moving the departments, including the clerk's office, to CCC is months in the making.
Cayuga County Legislature Chairman Jonathan Anna told 水果派AV the plan began with his predecessor, Legislator Aileen McNabb-Coleman, and CCC President Brian Durant. The space at CCC is available because the employment and training center moved to the college's new workforce development center on Grant Avenue.

Anna credited county staff, including operations manager Shereen Androsko, chief information officer Tom Bunn, purchasing director Amanda O'Grady, interim county clerk Shelley Patterson and the building and grounds team for executing a plan to move the departments into the CCC space.
"Those are the folks that did the hard work, the lifting and got this going," he said. "They did it in a matter of a couple of weeks."
The space will be occupied by the clerk's office, human resources, information technology and the planning department 鈥 all of which were displaced after the Cayuga County Office Building closed for two years due to the presence of asbestos-containing vermiculite.
When the building closed, the clerk's office moved to the county historian's office on Court Street. But county leaders wanted to find a long-term solution to provide more space for the clerk's office.
Another part of the move for the clerk's office was environmental testing of the first floor at the county office building. The clerk's office occupied that floor and tests showed for months there was no vermiculite or other pollutants present.
When the most recent tests were clear, Anna explained there was "a bit of a time crunch" to get into the building and remove documents, equipment and furniture from the clerk's office. Within two weeks, crews removed everything from the first floor 鈥 including equipment for the local Department of Motor Vehicles.
Anna noted the costs to prepare the space at CCC weren't as high as 63 Genesee St., in part, because CCC had surplus furniture available. The county has spent nearly $900,000 to outfit the 63 Genesee St. building.
"We've really gone out of our way to ensure that we're not spending additional funds if we don't have to," he said.
For now, the clerk's office is asking residents to schedule appointments. Anna said it will be open to the public by June 2.
