A Weedsport native is embarking on a new chapter in her life.
Michayla Granbois is the owner of Remi Reads, a bookstore opening in the village this month. The 200-square-foot store is located inside women's clothing store Live a Little Boutique at 8934 N. Seneca St. Starting Saturday, July 26, bibliophiles of all ages will be able to browse its shelves of new and used books. A ribbon-cutting ceremony that day will feature refreshments and a raffle.
In a Facebook post, Granbois said teaming with boutique owner Erika Van Horn means "celebrating women's voices in both fashion and fiction."

The bookstore meets a need, she said, as it's the only one of its kind in the area. She originally planned to start a mobile store, but the unpredictability of Central New York weather and safety concerns, especially with children, changed her mind. Eventually she connected with Van Horn, who had space she was looking to fill.聽
Starting a bookstore came with several challenges, Granbois said, such as feasibility and managing that space. Her husband helped design it to make the most of its small size.
She also had to figure out which books to buy, and how many copies. The store will carry a variety of classic and contemporary titles and genres, as well as books by local authors like聽Brittany Graves, of Elbridge, author of the fantasy "Best By Far." Granbois hopes to bring her in for a meet-and-greet and book signing.聽

That passion for reading is what Granbois wants to share at Remi Reads, which takes its name from the family's late chocolate Lab, Remington.
"We wanted to do something fun," she said. "I was so jealous that Alex could go to work, and he didn鈥檛 feel like he was going to work."
