As the next superintendent of the Auburn Enlarged City School District prepares for her new role, the previous one was recognized by the district board of education on Tuesday.
Jeff Pirozzolo, who became the district's superintendent in 2015, presided over his last board meeting at the Harriet Tubman Administration Building that night.
His successor, Dr. Misty Slavic, was sworn in toward the end of the meeting. She will begin her responsibilities聽Sept. 1.聽
"This is on behalf of (the board)," Hernandez said. "We want to thank you."

Pirozzolo, who noted he has been with the district for 19 years, said he has enjoyed serving the community, district and board.聽
"I've been all over, and Auburn was the place I made my home for a reason 鈥 because of the people here and the caring community," he said.
"It's been my pleasure, my honor serving this district. Thank you for giving me the opportunity."
Pirozzolo will continue to work for the district as deputy superintendent, focusing on capital projects and other needs, until he retires on Jan. 5, 2025.聽
An employment agreement between the district and Slavic, who served as superintendent of the Kiski Area School District in Pennsylvania from September 2021 to April 2024, was approved in June.

鈥 The Auburn school district also filled an administrative position on an interim basis on Wednesday.
The board approved a resolution naming Concetta Galvan as Auburn's interim assistant for personnel. Sarah Cupelli became the district's superintendent for personnel in 2021聽and was promoted to deputy superintendent in 2023. She left the district after being selected as the next superintendent of the Waterloo Central School District in July.
