Dollar General plans to demolish its current store in the village of Weedsport and build a new one next-door with additional parking.
Developer Sherburne DGLLC filed a site plan application in October seeking approval to build a new 10,640-square-foot Dollar General on South Seneca Street in the village. The county's General Municipal Law committee will review the application for intermunicipal impacts at its next meeting at 9 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, in the sixth-floor caucus room of the county office building, 160 Genesee St., Auburn.
According to a Short Environmental Assessment Form, the developer also plans to acquire land to the south of the 8881 S. Seneca St. store from Weedsport First Presbyterian Church. The new Dollar General will be built on that land, and the land occupied by the current store will become the parking lot. The Weedsport Planning Board determined the project will have no negative environmental impact.
The 8881 S. Seneca St. building dates back to 1935, according to Cayuga County property records. Sherburne DGLLC purchased it in 2002. It is one of five Dollar Generals in the Cayuga County area, the others being in Auburn, Union Springs, Port Byron and Elbridge. The variety store chain has more than 19,000 stores in the U.S. and Mexico, and grossed about $39 billion in revenue its last fiscal year.
