In his first week back after an injury derailed his 2024 season, Auburn native Tim Locastro capped it off with a grand slam Friday.
Locastro was the leadoff hitter for the Triple-A El Paso Chihuahuas when he came to the plate with the bases loaded in the third inning. He swung at the first pitch and drove it the opposite way for El Paso's first grand slam of 2025.
It was Locastro's second home run of the season. He had a homer in his third game back from injury earlier in the week.
Locastro finished Friday's game with two hits, including the grand slam. He followed that with another multi-hit game Saturday. He reached base four times — two hits and two walks — against Sacramento.
Since making his season debut on Easter Sunday, Locastro is batting .333 (6-for-18) and his on-base percentage is .478. He has scored six runs and one stolen base.
Locastro signed a minor league contract to return to the San Diego Padres' organization in February. He joined the Padres in 2024 and received a spring training invitation, but was ultimately sent to El Paso.Â
While in Triple-A, he was off to a hot start when he was injured. An awkward slide on a stolen base attempt resulted in a dislocated shoulder. He attempted to rehab it, but needed season-ending surgery to repair the injury.
When Locastro re-signed with the Padres organization, he told Ë®¹ûÅÉAV he was cleared for baseball activities. But the Padres did not have him join the Chihuahuas for the start of the season. He continued his preparations until April 20, when the Padres assigned him to Triple-A.
Locastro said before the season that he wanted to get off to a good start. His goal is to make it back to the majors. He last played in a major league game in 2023 with the New York Mets.
