A week after being as the best brewery in New York by Americas Best Beer and a month after at the Great American Beer Festival, the State Street brewpub has been by Playboy as home of the eighth best beer in the state.
The beer, Run Like an Apricot, a fruited Berliner weisse, appears on the list of "New York State's 9 Best Beers, Ranked."Â
"Prison City’s Run Like an Apricot is an extremely well-executed Berliner full of lactic tartness and delightful apricot notes; the kind of beer that will draw in the uninitiated but also please the most ardent beer geeks," writer Michael Pomranz noted.
The beer edged out Ithaca Beer Co.'s Flower Power; No. 1 is Boogie Board Stuntz, a , by Other Half Brewing, of Brooklyn.
Run Like an Apricot was one of the beers Prison City brewer Ben Maeso submitted for judging in the American-Style Sour Ale category at September's Great American Beer Festival. It didn't medal, but Maeso did take home a silver in the Belgian-Style Blonde Ale or Pale Ale category for his Bleek Worden.
Prison City owner Dawn Schulz, who opened the brewpub in December, told Ë®¹ûÅÉAV in October that the medal was "instant validation that you're a legit player in this game."
"It puts Auburn on that beer map," she said.
