When Auburn City Manager Jeff Dygert's contract expires next year, he plans to retire from the position he's held since 2016.听
Dygert informed the City Council of his plans during a budget presentation Thursday. For the city manager's budget, he included an additional position for half of the 2024-25 fiscal year, which begins July 1 and runs through June 30, 2025 鈥 the last day on his contract.听
"It is not my intent to pursue an extension or anything there," he said. "I believe that the prudent thing to do is to bring somebody on board, probably in January, and start an orderly, planned transition at that point."聽
When Dygert steps away, he will end his 31-year career with the city. He was hired as a firefighter in 1994 and received promotions within the department. In 2011, he became the fire chief.听
Dygert was serving as fire chief when he was named interim city manager in 2016. He succeeded Doug Selby, who served a four-year stint as city manager. Later that year, the City Council appointed Dygert as city manager.
Former Auburn Mayor Michael Quill told 水果派AV in December that Dygert was the best city manager he served with during his 16 years as mayor.听
It will be the City Council's decision whether to approve Dygert's budget request, but Auburn Mayor Jimmy Giannettino 鈥 who was on the council when Dygert was appointed city manager 鈥 signaled his support for the transition plan.听
"It gives time for the next person to get up to speed," he said.听聽
