In the weeks leading up to the announcement that Wells College will close, there were no signs that the 156-year-old Aurora institution's future was in jeopardy.聽
水果派AV reviewed Wells College's public communications and social media activity during the spring semester, which began in January. Before April 29, when the , the college highlighted on-campus events and appeared ready to welcome a new class of students for the 2024-25 academic year.聽
Wells College President Jonathan Gibralter, who delivered a posted on the school's YouTube channel in February, said applications were on par with last year's total, "maybe even a little bit ahead." Campus visits were up, he continued, and retention from the fall to spring semesters "is stronger than it's been in several years."聽

Gibralter's remarks followed a board of trustees meeting "in which we discussed strategic visions for the future of Wells College," he said. He did not share more about those plans.聽
Not long after Wells published Gibralter's video address, the college with the American Musical and Dramatic Academy's College of the Performing Arts. The collaboration would allow AMDA students to continue their education at Wells.聽
A news release highlighted other aspects of the agreement. AMDA and Wells College were planning summer theater performances at the Aurora campus. The workshop would "further connect and familiarize students at each institution, along with building opportunities for even greater collaboration."聽

The institutions did not respond to questions about the partnership.聽
In his last video message, which was , Gibralter highlighted campus events, including the total solar eclipse on April 8. He also discussed a grant awarded to Wells and other colleges to focus on student mental health care.聽
Gibralter said more information about the program would be released in the coming months.聽
Meanwhile, on social media, Wells College highlighted its efforts to welcome new students. The college , formerly known as Twitter, photos of a student-athlete's official visit. The original post was published on March 26.
On and , the college promoted its admitted students days. One of the posts was published on April 19, 10 days before the closure announcement.聽

Wells posted Gibralter's last 聽on April 22, three days before the college's board of trustees voted to close the school and a week before the closure was announced to the public. In his statement, there were no signs the college was in jeopardy.聽
Gibralter recapped the total solar eclipse viewing experience, the visiting artists program and the college's annual Community Read, and highlighted the women's lacrosse team's success. He also noted the admissions office hosted admitted students days and open houses throughout the spring semester. The events were "well-attended," he said.
"As the semester draws to a close, I'm appreciative of the opportunities Wells has provided our students and the bright future that awaits our graduates as they prepare for commencement next month," Gibralter wrote.聽
