New Yorkers will head to the polls Tuesday, May 20, to vote on school board candidates as well as district budgets and other proposals.
In the Cayuga County area, many of those board of education ballots will be contested. Four Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES districts will have more candidates than board seats this year, and four will not.
The ninth district in the area, the Skaneateles Central School District, as of Monday has not listed on its website who is running this year nor how many candidates there are for the two three-year seats up for grabs. The district did not respond to Ë®¹ûÅÉAV's request for comment on the status of the election.Â
Here are all the candidates who filed 2025 petitions for local school board seats this election day:
• The Auburn Enlarged City School District Board has seven people competing for three three-year seats and a one-year seat. Vice President Danielle Wood and incumbents Daniel Lovell and Jim Van Arsdale are running for reelection, while Bill Andre, Fred Cornelius, Jason Horbal and Hannah van der Werff will also be on the ballot. Former board member Freddie Wilson III resigned in April with a year left on his term, so his replacement will be elected along with the three expiring seats.
