The first total solar eclipse to touch Cayuga County in 99 years will take place in less than a month, and the village of Fair Haven will have the best seat in the house.聽
The eclipse will begin locally at about 2:08 p.m. Monday, April 8. Totality 鈥 when the moon's shadow fully covers the sun 鈥 will begin at about 3:21 p.m. As the northernmost area of the county, Fair Haven will experience the longest period of totality that afternoon, at about three minutes and 22 seconds, compared to two minutes or less in areas to the south.
Total solar eclipses can attract 鈥umbraphiles,鈥 or 鈥渟hadow lovers,鈥 from around the world. In August 2017, South Carolina $269 million in economic impact at hotels, restaurants and more from an eclipse whose path of totality crossed the Columbia area. Now, Fair Haven is anticipating a boon of its own, according to several business owners there who spoke with 水果派AV.

水果派AV also tried booking hotel rooms online for April 7 and April 8 in Fair Haven, and all of them were full.
As of Wednesday morning only two of about 15 nearby stays were available on Airbnb, a $235-a-night room and a $47 barn stay. No properties were available on fellow short-term rental platform Vrbo.聽
DiBernardo said he has a couple rooms he could open, and is considering it as April 8 approaches. The total solar eclipse will take place as the village's businesses gear up for their busy season.
Fair Haven is a popular place during those warmer months, DiBernardo continued, so its business owners are used to being busy.
