77 Seconds: Covering the Buffalo Bills' wild 1990 comeback victory over Broncos
On Sept. 30, 1990, the Buffalo Bills shocked the Denver Broncos by scoring 20 points in 77 seconds in a wild, come-from-behind 29-28 victory at Rich Stadium. The Broncos dominated the Bills on the ground, racking up 208 rushing yards and a 21-9 lead by the third quarter. But the Bills' defense sparked a furious rally in the fourth, starting with Cornelius Bennett's 80-yard touchdown return after a blocked field goal. On the ensuing drive, Bills cornerback Leonard Smith intercepted Broncos quarterback John Elway and raced 29-yards for a touchdown to give the Bills a 22-21 lead. On Denver's next play from scrimmage, John Elway fumbled the snap and Bennett recovered the ball on Denver's 2 yard line. Bills running back Kenneth Davis scored a rushing touchdown on the next play to give the Bills a 29-21 lead. You can read The Buffalo News' coverage of the comeback win below.
