It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Barbara Magel, a woman of extraordinary elegance, sophistication, and timeless grace, who left this world peacefully on Saturday morning, July 5, 2025, at 11 a.m., surrounded by love.
Born on May 10, 1931, and raised in Batavia, New York, Barbara was the cherished daughter of Mildred and Algernon Pratt. From an early age, Barbara's natural poise, warmth, and sense of style touched all who knew her. Throughout her life, she remained the very embodiment of class and dignity - qualities she carried with her until the very end.
Barbara was predeceased by her beloved husband, Carr Magel, and her dear children, Jamie Magel Rathbone and Peter Inskee, siblings Leslie, Laura, Mary Ann and Helen.
She is survived by her devoted children: Deborah Gravanda of Batavia, New York; Tamara Magel of New York City; and Jason Magel of Phoenix, Arizona; as well as her special grandson, Jimmy Magel of Auburn, NY.
Barbara's grandchildren brought her great joy: Jeremy, Anthony (deceased), Ted, Jimmy, Sorel, Asher, Brenna, and Sonora. She was also blessed with great-grandchildren: Ethan, Lena, and Anthony, who will carry forward her memory and spirit.
Her life was a testament to quiet resilience, unconditional love, and the beauty of a generous and gentle soul. She will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
There will be no services at this time.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barbara's memory to The Matthew House, nonprofit hospice located at 43 Metcalf Drive, Auburn, New York 13021.For more information or to donate, please visit their website or contact them directly.
The family warmly invites you to honor Barbara's memory by raising a glass at her favorite places - Osteria Salina and Moondog's Lounge - with your favorite cocktail in hand. Hers was her beloved and infamous muddled old-fashioned. And in her spirit, please continue to support your local musicians.
