When the Buffalo Bills began working with Legends 鈥 a sports consulting firm co-founded by Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones 鈥 two years ago, it was a modest relationship, starting with feasibility studies, focus groups and fan surveys.
The organization, along with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and Gov. Kathy Hochul 鈥 both with Western New York ties themselves 鈥 celebrated Monday morning the official groundbreaking for a new $1.54 billion Highmark Stadium that鈥檚 been at least several years in the making.
The big spend is aimed at ensuring the Buffalo Bills, which the non-relocation agreement describes as an聽鈥渆xtraordinary and unique鈥 property, stay in Western New York.
There currently are 63,000 of them. But the new stadium will only seat a little over 60,000. That means almost 3,000 current season ticket holders could be left out in the cold when the new stadium opens.
The Stadium Experience, under construction in an open space at the Walker Center in Williamsville, is expected to open by the end of the summer.
