China has responded to US President Donald Trump after he announced new 54% tariffs on all Chinese imports into the US during his much anticipated 鈥楲iberation Day.鈥 During a large-scale rollout of 鈥渞eciprocal鈥 tariffs, broadcasted live from the White House Rose Garden, Trump announced the addition of a 34% tariff on top of the 20% imposed earlier in the year. A spokesperson for China鈥檚 Ministry of Commerce has called on the US to 鈥渋mmediately revoke鈥 the tariff measures, describing Trump鈥檚 decision as a 鈥渢ypical unilateral bullying practice." The ministry has also threatened to take countermeasures to protect its economy and 鈥渟afeguard鈥 its own 鈥渞ights and interests.鈥 "The United States has drawn the so-called 鈥榬eciprocal tariffs鈥 based on subjective and unilateral assessments, which is inconsistent with international trade rules and seriously damages the legitimate rights and interests of relevant parties," said China's Ministry of Commerce in a statement.聽 China is one of the countries that has been hit the hardest by Trump鈥檚 鈥楲iberation Day鈥 announcement and has been a target for Trump since his return to the White House. Trump has also signed an executive order demanding the closure of the 鈥渄e minimis鈥 trade loophole, which allows the flow of low-value packages from China into the US duty-free.聽 China鈥檚 trade with the US has generated over $400 billion in annual sales for Chinese producers.
