A small contingent of Boy Scouts and family members don masks and social distance to celebrate the 71st Harold J. Short's Seward Day Ceremony at Seward Memorial Park in Auburn during the coronavirus pandemic. Scouting units from Cayuga County not only celebrate William Seward but they also celebrate Law Day. Seward Day was started by Cayuga County's longest continuous Boy Scout, Harold J, Short. Short was born July 1, 1895, and resided in Auburn his entire life. On Sept. 8, 1910, Harold became the first Boy Scout of Cayuga County, and one of the first scouts in the country.
