The Cayuga Museum of History & Art will relocate to downtown Auburn this summer while construction takes place on the West End Arts Campus.
The 203 Genesee St. museum will close to the public after Saturday, May 25, it announced in a news release Friday.
Current exhibits about the history of recreation and Owasco Lake and historic art from the museum's collection, as well as tours of the Case Research Lab, will be available there until then.
On June 1, the museum will open a temporary location in Suite 100 at 144 Genesee St. It will have information on the history of the Case lab, downtown Auburn and more. There will also be hands-on activities and summer programs to be announced. The location will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays through Saturdays. Admission will be free, but donations will be appreciated.
The West End Arts Campus, a project further linking the museum and Genesee Street neighbor the Schweinfurth Art Center, will consist of paving, landscaping, signage and other improvements on the two properties. The institutions have touted the roughly $4 million project as a way to increase their presence and accessibility, and to improve the city's western gateway.Â
