A day after its ribbon-cutting, the new West End Arts Campus in Auburn will host a free grand opening celebration with art demonstrations and activities, live music, food, tours and more.
Both institutions that make up the campus, the Cayuga Museum of History & Art and Schweinfurth Art Center at 203-205 Genesee St., will be open for free tours during the celebration from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 3. Both feature "How Did We Get Here?" by emerging artist Werner Sun, of Ithaca. The museum features "Making History: Stories of Industry in Auburn" and "Silent Films on Cayuga Lake: The Wharton Studio Story," while the art center features "Made in NY 2025" and that day will open "Joy!" and "Auburn's Black Family History" by Syracuse artist Ellen M. Blalock.
Along with the tours and exhibits, a full day of other events is planned:
Demonstration in the Schweinfurth's basement clay studio
Making clay figurines at the museum
Collaborative quilt-making in the Schweinfurth's second-floor sewing studio
Explore stop-motion animation at the museum
Live music by Ritsuko Wada in the Schweinfurth's main gallery

All events are free and open to the public.
The West End Arts Campus ribbon-cutting, taking place at 1 p.m. Friday, May 2, is also free and open to the public. The campus, which unifies the museum and arts center with new entrances for each, more parking and increased accessibility, is a $4.7 million project supported by about $2.2 million from the city of Auburn's $10 million Downtown Revitalization Initiative state grant.
