One of the entities behind a proposal to buy the former Wells College campus will hold a public meeting on its plan for the property.

Les Lo Baugh, president of the Hiawatha Institute for Indigenous Knowledge, will present his organization's concept at 5 p.m. Monday, April 7, at The Apple Station, 5279 Cross Road, Springport.

Lo Baugh will provide information about the plan and take questions, according to a news release.

The Hiawatha Institute partnered with Grande Venues, a Minnesota-based historic preservation firm, to make a $10.7 million offer to buy the campus. Grande Venues and the Hiawatha Institute would establish an Indigenous college and a senior housing community, while also seeking a higher education institution that would want to use a portion of the property as a satellite campus.

Wells College listed the campus for sale in November after announcing its closure in April 2024. A call for offers was issued in February. The college's board of trustees said in March that it received "multiple offers" to buy the campus.

The college is selling the 127-acre campus as part of its asset disposition process. The sale must be approved by regulators, including the state attorney general's office.
