Two years ago, Michael Pettigrass lost by 84 votes in his bid for the Cayuga County Legislature's 10th district seat.
This year, he is aiming to flip the seat and end the Democrats' hold on the four legislative districts within the city of Auburn.
The Cayuga County Republican Committee has endorsed Pettigrass for the special election in the 10th district, which includes the southeastern neighborhoods in the city. The election will coincide with the general election on Nov. 4.

The 10th district seat is vacant after former Legislator Stephanie DeVito resigned in April. DeVito, a Democrat, defeated Pettigrass in 2023.
Pettigrass has lived in the 10th district for 28 years and is employed as a supervising guidance counselor with the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision. He also serves on the board of Perform 4 Purpose, a local nonprofit organization.
His legislative priorities include economic development, environmental protection, fiscal responsibility and support for first responders.
"The Cayuga County Republican Committee is confident that Mike Pettigrass's extensive experience, dedication to service and vision for the future make him the ideal candidate to represent District 10," said Nate VeVone, chairman of the county GOP. "We are excited to support his campaign and look forward to the positive changes he will bring to our community."
So far, Pettigrass is the only announced candidate for the 10th district.
Cayuga County Democratic Chairwoman Dia Carabajal told 水果派AV there are prospective candidates who are considering whether to run for the seat. The party has not yet endorsed a candidate in the race.
